Teacher ratio cost $60M

PA Wellington The cost of achieving a primary school teacher-pupil ratio of one to 25 would be $6O million, the Minister of Education, Mr Wellington, has said. Mr Wellington said in reply to a question by Ms Fran Wilde (Lab., Wellington Central) that “only a few hundred” teachers could be drawn from those already trained to reduce the ratio. The rest would have to be trained, he said, which would involve almost 3000 new teachers.
