Fire Service on standby
/ Fire Service units stood by during an early-morning controlled burn-off in Lands? downe Terrace, Cashmere, yesterday. The Fire Service arrived before 7 a.m. to allay the fears of neighbours who thought the blaze might get out of control in the high wind. Two units and an emergency tender attended a fire at Vogue Engineering, Maces Road, Bromley, at 9.15 a.m. where an acetylene cylinder inside the premises was aflame. Three delivery hoses were used to bring the fire under control. The cylinder was then submerged in a portable water dam until staff of New Zealand Industrial Gases arrived. No-one was injured. Damaged was moderate.
