$30M offer for Sir Tristram turned down

PA Wellington The part-owner of Sir Tris-. tram, sire of this year’s Caulfield and Melbourne Cups winner, Gumer’s Lane, has turned down an offer of $3O million for the stallion. Mr Pat Hogan, who stands the stallion at his Cambridge stud, said yesterday he had refused a $3O million offer for Sir Tristram from a New Zealand bloodstock agent on behalf of a Californian client.

The offer came three days after Gurner’s Lane won the Melbourne Cup, he said. Mr Hogan has been quoted as saying he would not sell the stallion at any price. Road, winner of the Brisbane Cup. Mr Hogan believes the stallion is the world’s second leading sire with stakes earned equivalent to $1.4 million. Mr Hogan, who in partnership with his wife, owns 20 of the 40 shares in Sir Tristram, said the sale of one of the other shares is being negotiated in Australia for about $300,000.
