Bowls extension
Bowlers, it would seem, are slow to act. Because of disappointing entries for the Christmas fours and New Year triples, the Christchurch centre extended the closing dates a week and this has led to the satisfactory totals of 98 in each. But the open singles, which was to have closed last Mon-
day, has also fallen short of the expected figure and the closing has been extended to next Monday. The singles total yesterday was about 290 and while this is well up on last year’s 216 the change this season from mid-week to week-end play was expected to attract quite a few more.
