Borderdale seminar

The Borderdale Sheep Society is taking a seminar to North Canterbury to demonstrate the society’s contention that the breed is ideally suited to light irrigated land. The seminar will be held in the Culverden-Hanmer area and will feature Ministery of Agriculture and Fisheries and society speakers. It begins at 10 a.m. on Thursday, November 25. It starts at the property of Mr Bruce Johns, Mouse Point, Culverden, which is not far from the Red Post corner on the Lewis Pass road. Mr Johns will speak on his breeding policy and then Mr Bob Hewitt will speak on the society’s selection regulations. Mr Ross Moorhouse, sheep and beef officer, M.A.F.

Rangiora, will also speak on developments in Sheeplan. The next stop is the property of Chris and Roger Atkinson, Hamner, where lunch will be taken and Miss Nicola Shadbolt, farm advisory officer (economics), M.A.F. Christchurch, will speak on stock policies in a drought. Mr Maurice Batey, farm advisory officer, M.A.F. Rangiora, will also talk on changing sheep policies in drought and farm adviser Mr Tony Whatman, Lincoln College, will outline the ongoing development of the Atkinson property. Borderdale rams are being put over all Halfbred ewes on this property. Morning and afternoon tea is provided but seminar goers are asked to bring their own lunches.
