Attack by dogs

Sir,-Philip Baines (November 11) judges without logic, because of a few offending dogs. Their fault is more often than not the undisputed fault of owners. No responsible person condones cruelty of any kind or would willingly allow their dogs to harm, or harass ducks, or any other creatures. Regrettably this training is sadly lacking in some of our society, where not just children but adults cause more cruelty and suffering to ducks, birds and other creatures, as any wildlife or animal society can verify. Is this acceptable because they are of human species? Dogs give more than friendship; they help the lonely, guard the homes, tend the sheep, lead the blind, which many humans are incapable of doing. Dogs have proven beyond doubt that they are indispensable to man. They do not destroy nature, or cause wars and untold misery, but they do like many creatures suffer at the hands of some of mankind because of selfishness.—Yours, etc., IVY V. KENCH.
