Car doors and cyclists

Sir,—l cycle to school every morning; and am very annoyed about the number of thoughtless and irresponsible motorists who open their car doors without paying any consideration toward the unexpected cyclist behind. I believe it commonsense and courtesy for the motorist to think of those on bicycles as well as himself. Is it so hard to take five seconds to look behind? I am sure that if this measure was taken there would be a lot of grateful cyclists around. — Yours, etc., B. D. BOS, Rangiora. November 15, 1982.
