Naval plotting
To the Honour of the I ,eet. By Robert H. Pilpel. Futura, 1982. 575 pp. $6.95 (paperback). A deep understanding of human relationships and naval warfare is displayed by the author of this book, and he has used that knowledge to construct ■ an astonishing and absorbing story. Its ’ characters include Woodrow Wilson and his adviser Colonel House, and from the . other side of the Atlantic, Admirals ’ Fisher. Jellicoe and Beatty. Winston I Churchill, Kaiser Wilhelm 11, and his . " naval commanders. Mr Pilpel also seems to be well-informed on the issues which influence foreign ministers in formulating j their policies. Altogether it is an intricate plot, very cleverly and satisfactorily worked out except for a couple of nautical solecisms. It is an implausible story, but it makes compelling reading.—Ted Glasgow.
