Taxi robber jailed
PA Wellington Michael Te Aroha Maru, aged 23, an unemployed musician, was jailed for five years when he appeared in the High Court at Wellington yesterday for the armed robbery of a taxi-driver. The charge arose .from an incident on August 30 when Maru and a man named Chase engaged a taxi-driver and presented a gas pistol at the driver, Augustus George Suhr. Chase and Maru both pleaded guilty to aggravated robbery. Chase had earlier been jailed for six years for his part. Sentencing Maru, Mr Justice Quilliam said that, like Chase, he had an appalling list of previous convictions, although none for violence.
