Season’s wool exports to start
Canterbury wool will be .loaded for export into two ships due at Lyttelton this week.. The 12,592-ton Amsteldiep is due to arrive from Dunedin tomorrow and the 7192-ton Polessk should arrive from Napier on Saturday. Their arrival will start the wool export season. Last year about nine wool ships sailed from Lyttelton.
Trade this year was expected to be about the same as last year, said a spokesman for Scales, the agent for the two ships. China would take a lot of the wool, the spokesman said. The Amsteldiep, under charter to Sinochart, will load about 10,000 bales during her three days at port. The wool is destined for China.
The Polessk, a Baltic Shipping Company vessel, will probably only load wool at port for one day. Her cargo is destined for Europe and the Soviet Union.
