Receiving charge dismissed
A car receiving charge against a tool maker was dismissed in the District Court yesterday. Paul Martin Carroll, aged 23 (Mr I. D. Scott), had denied receiving a Mark II Ford Cortina valued at $2lOO. Another charge of stealing the car from a car sales yard on May 5 had earlier been dismissed. Judge Willis said that some of Carroll’s alibi evidence was “wishy-washy”
but he could not decide conflicting evidence given by the defendant and a youth convicted for his part in the car theft. The youth, Stuart George Hines, had told the Court that Carroll had helped to strip the car on May 8 and taken some parts. Carroll denied the claim and said he had later bought the parts from Hines, not knowing they were stolen.
