‘Code Red’ stays on

PA Wellington There were no compelling reasons to take the children’s programme, “Code Red,” off television, the public affairs manager for the Broadcasting Corporation, Mr Charles Martin, has said. He said about half a million viewers watched the programme each week and the corporation had received adverse reaction associated with two young viewers.

Mr Martin issued a statement after a meeting between representatives of the corporation and police, education, fire service and Monitor about the programme and other programmes for young people on television. He said very few people at the meeting thought “Code Red” was the greatest programme on television but on the other hand there were no compelling reasons to take it off.

The value of the meeting was the discussions about television in. general and the participants had agreed to meet in the future to discuss particular programmes or specific concerns, he said.
