Kestle to be paroled
PA Wellington A convicted murderer, Murray John Kestle, would be paroled early next year, said the Minister of Justice, Mr McLay, yesterday. Kestle, aged 31. was sentenced to life imprisonment on May 22, 1973, for the murder of his wife. He has been in custody since January, 1973. Mr McLay said that it was unusual to announce a parole decision but there had al-
ready been news media “speculation” about the Prisons Parole Board’s recommendation in the case. “It is therefore better to avoid further rumours and state the position clearly,” Mr McLay said. “I also want to make it clear that Kestle’s release early in 1983 is as recommended by the board. His case has not received any special treatment as a result of publicity generated on his behalf.”
