Single-handed yacht race
NZPA-Reuter Cape Town The fourth and fifth placed yachtsmen arrived in Cape Town yesterday to complete the first leg of a singlehanded round-the-world yacht race. Desmond Hampton, of Britain, aboard Gypsy Moth V, crossed the line early yesterday, and Tony Lush, of the United States, arrived in Cape Town in his cat ketch Lady Pepperell hours later,
in fifth place. Lush was 11 days behind the first leg leader, a Frenchman, Phillippe Jeantot, in the race which began in Newport. Rhode Island. Jeantot .was followed in one week later by a South African, Bertie Reed, who reached Cape Town last Thursday. Another Briton, Richard Broadhead, arrived on Monday in third place.
