Cobb and Co. goes to Australia

PA Auckland Lion Breweries will expand its chain of Cobb and Company family restaurants, one of the largest in New Zealand, into Australia. The ‘first Australian Cobb and Co. establishment, a SNZI.3 million development in conjunction with Castle-maine-Toohey Breweries, will open in North Sydney's Parkway Hotel on December 6. Lion is negotiating for further sites in other states. Last year New Zealand’s 26 Cobb and Co. establishments had the 35th highest international restaurant chain turnover, bringing in ?40 million. A Lion Breweries spokes-

man said that the directors and management of Castle-maine-Toohey had been "very very impressed" with Cobb and Co’s New Zealand operations. Although New Zealand Steinlager beer would be served, Lion’s Cobb and Co. expansion was not connected with moves announced by the brewery in August to form a drinks distribution company in Australia. That operation, a jointventure between Lion, Cas-tlemain-Toohey, and an unnamed partner with wide south-east Asian interests, will provide a major outlet for New Zealand beers into Australia.
