Street demo More than 200.000 West German trade unionists took to the streets in angry demonstrations against the economic policies of the new Centre-Right Government. The centre of the nationwide protest was the industrial city of Dortmund where more than 100,000 people listened to speeches lambasting the new Government and warning of confrontation if it did not change course.— Dortmund. Human chain More than 25,000 peace campaigners formed a human chain linking the 7km between the embassies of the United States and Soviet Union to mark United Nations’ Day. Chanting disarmament slogans to the beat of drums and bearing peace banners in the rain, marchers congregated in the centre of Stockholm' to form the chain.-Stockholm. Patients robbed Following the directions from.a female accomplice, two masked men entered a hospital ward in Virginia and stole about JNZ9OO from two paralysed patients playing
cards. The woman, who was not masked, was pointing out who to search during the robbery at the spinal cord injury unit at McGuire Veterans’ Administration medical centre, but the men only went into the pockets of two of the patients. No injuries were reported and the robbers got away—Richmond. Growth area The World Bank president, Mr Alden Clausen, has said that South-East Asia may well be the most dynamic growth area in the world over the next 20 years. The economic management of the countries of the region was impressive, he said, although some nations faced such problems as dependence on a single commodity for exports.—Bangkok. Truck overturns Thirteen people, including two children, were killed and 22 others injured when a truck carrying grain overturned in western India. The Press Trust of India news agency said that those killed were sugar factory workers and their families who had been riding on top of the grain bags—New Delhi.
