Single-handed yacht race
NZPA-Reuter Cape Town A Briton, Richard Broadhead, aboard Perseverance of Medina, finished third across the line yesterday in the first leg of a singlehanded round-the-world yacht race from Newport, Rhode Island, to Cape Town. Race officials said that
another Briton, Desmond Hampton in Gypsy Moth V, was expected some time last evening. A Frenchman, Philippe Jeantot, sailing Credit Agricole, was first across the line 10 days ago, followed by a South African, Bertie Reed, aboard Voortrekker last Thursday.
