Strong N.Z. team for Werribee Cup

Melbourne Magistrate, now 11 years old, is again among the entries for the Werribee Cup, trying for his second win on end in the race. Entered also for tomorrow's race are Azaking, Focal Point, Payco and Nazman. all from New Zealand, and a former New Zealand five-year-old, My Sir Avon. As Sir Avon in New Zealand, My Sir Avon developed very good form, his wins including the Two Thousand Guineas at Riccarton and Canterbury Gold Cup. An impressive finish to sixth place in the Geelong
Cup brought My Sir Avon Into prominence as a Melbourne Cup prospect and his rating took a further leap at the week-end when Harry White accepted the horse as his mount in both the L. K. S. Mackinnon Stakes on Saturday and the cup. The combination of White and My Sir Avon's trainer, Bart Cummings, has been one of the most successful in Melbourne Cup history. Cummings and White have combined to win the race three times with Think Big in 1974 and 1975 and Hypemo in 1979. White won also on Arwon (1978) and Cummings, all told, claims a remarkable seven Melbourne Cup wins.
