P.R. firm buys CPT’s

The public relations consultant. Network Communications. is this month installing the first of the new CPT 8500 series word processors from Computer Consultants. Ltd. The company has two CPTs in Wellington and one in each of its Auckland and Christchurch offices. All four systems have full data communications capabilities and will be linked by Post Office lines. Network's Wellington office in the late 1970 s installed CPT’s first-generation word processor, the cassettebased 4200' visual memory system. The production and distribution of press releases is a good example of the benefits of using word processors. Previously, if a client required the company to prepare a press release urgently for personal delivery in the three main centres. Network's staff were extremely pushed to draft it, get the client’s comments and approval, do a final version and then photocopy it allowing sufficient time to reach overnight or special courier services. “Now. once input and stored on the CPT," said Mr Common, “a press release can be easily redrafted and amended until both we and the client are happy with it. Once in final form, it is sent over the telephone lines to each office for printing of originals and delivery. Not only are we able to provide high quality originals for all the media in the different centres, but we can literally deliver minutes after final client approval rather than be limited to courier schedules." Also important to the final decision was the CPT’s ability to interface with phototypesetting systems. The firm produces numerous newsletters, annual reports, brochures, house journal and other publications each year, and will be investigating ways of simplifying the typesetting process. Long-term, the company also intends to use its CPT systems to prepare, edit and transmit telex messages, and possibly to handle its time and cost analyses, billing, and monthly accounting.
