Watersiders form shipping company
Tauranga watersiders have helped form a company which is entering the competitive shipping business. The new company would introduce a shipping service from Tauranga to Chile and South American west coast ports, New Zealand Marshalling and Stevedoring has said. N.Z.M.S., jointly owned by the Tauranga Waterside Workers’ Union and New Zealand Lumber, Ltd, said the company would be called SANZ Sea Freight, Ltd. SANZ would also be half owned by the Tauranga Waterside Workers’ Union. Nominal capital is $lOO,OOO. SANZ would start sailing with the Heemskerkgracht on November 4, followed by regular sailings at two-monthly intervals. The Heemskerkgracht is due at Lyttelton tomorrow. At first the company will charter ships for the service, but it aims to run its own vessels under the New Zealand flag. ♦ • * . Auckland's container terminal may this year, for the first time, handle 100.000 containers. Onlv nine months into the Auckland Harbour Board’s financial year nearly 75,000 containers have already passed through the terminal.
