Vehicle terms call rejected
PA Hastings The Government has rejected a call to abolish hirepurchase regulations on all cars and motor-cycles. The call was made by the MotorVehicle Dealers' Institute. Members attending the institute's annual conference at Hastings were told that a letter seeking the abolition had been sent to the Minister of Trade and Industry, Mr Templeton, by the national executive. A spokesman for Mr Templeton said in Wellington that the request had been declined. Mr Colin Stone, executive director of the institute, said that the abolition of the regulations had been recommended by the Industries Development Commission in its draft report. There was unanimous support for the move from the motor-vehicle industry, the Automobile Association, manufacturers, and finance houses, he said. Cars and motor-cycles were the only products subject to such hire-purchase regulations.
