Young farmers — ‘Going Up North for a Bit’
Earlier this year a herd of ,-oung farmers embarked on .he longest train journey to ae made in this country — from Bluff to Okaihau. just ;hort of Kaitaia. The purpose of their trip was to attend the annual national Young Farmers' conference, held in Kaitaia. but for most the journey was an end in itself. Television New Zealand's -Country Calendar" team joined the farmers on their epic adventure, and tonight at 7 o'clock TVI will present highlights of the trip in a special progamme. "Going Up North for a Bit." From Invercargill, the train was towed by the Kingston Flyer as far as Dunedin, cutting a steamy dash across country worked by its rowdy passengers. ’ The organisers had stressed the importance of "fellowship." and the passengers embraced the idea with
enthusiasm. New series The final episode in the present series of "The Gentle Touch" will be screened tonight. Next week in this slot One
will start screening a 10-part drama series. "Bergerac." The picturesque island of Jersey is the setting for the series by the creators of "Shoestring." John Nettles is
Bergerac, the handsome hero with an unorthodox approach to police duties. Each episode is a complete story, involving a crime in which Bergerac's department becomes involved.
McPhail and
Gadsbv
The final episode of "The Lynn of Tawa Show" will be screened tonight. The show’ will include an interview with Mr Muldoon. Next week David McPhail and Jon Gadsbv will reappear in a new series of "McPhail and Gadsbv."
Family movie
Labour Day afternoon has entertainment for all the family on Two with a repeat screening of the well-loved movie. "Doctor Dolittle.'' at 2.30.
Dolittle. played by Rex Harrison, is able to speak 500 animal languages, and with three friends he sets sail on a search for the Great Pink Sea Snail. The film is based on the stories by Hugh Lofting.
"Doctor Dolittle" also features Samantha Eggar, Anthony Newley and Richard Attenborough. Marlon Brando The well-known movie. "Sayonara." starring Marlon Brando, has been chosen by TVNZ as the Labour Day movie screening on One at 12.05 this afternoon. The theme is a romantic tale of James Michener of a Korean War pilot who falls in love with a, Japanese entertainer. Taka.
With a theme song by Irving Berlin and directed by Joshua Logan. "Sayonara" also stars Ricardo Montalban and Red Buttons.
