Aust. festival could be flushed with success
NZPA Melbourne A “burn the dunny” festival is to be held next month at the small town of Tongala near Echuca in north-eastern Victoria to celebrate the town’s connection to sewerage. Festival organiser Murray Ross said that Tongala was overflowing with excitement at the prospect of'a successful festival, which will be held on November 12 and 13. . * “One of the features will be the burning of a dunny in a bonfire on the Saturday night,” he said.
The Lions Club of Tongala t have organised a host of £ novel events, all with a toilet \ theme. I Other events include a dunny can race with com- t petitors carrying dunny. cans v on their shoulders, the t plumbers’ handicap where s people have to join pipes and cisterns together in working ii order, and a graffiti dunny, 1 which speaks for it t self. Ii "We’re having a dunny p cram, to see how many
people we can pack into a a toilet,” said Mr Ross. a “We had a dry run the f
other day and managed to get 29 people in, so maybe well make the Guinness Book of Records.” There will also be a handball competition and players will have to hand-pass a toilet roll through a toilet seat. Mr Ross said that organisers had some trouble collecting enough dunnys for the events, but a delivery of loos last week solved that problem. All proceeds will go to the anti-cancer research fund, and organisers are hoping for a big turn-out.
