Players on strike
NZPA Baltimore Americans faced another week-end without professional football after talks between striking players and team owners broke down.
The strike began on September 21 after two games of the four month season had been played. So far.. 140 games have been cancelled and it is unlikely that next week-end's matches can be played. The players want a fouryear contract giving them half the money paid by television networks for showing games. The owners want the contract to last five years.
The players are also demanding a wage scale based on experience, with extra money for new players and those selected for . all-star teams. The owners want to continue to bargain with individual players.
