Tarlad could thwart plans to qualify anot ler horse for the New Zealand Cup on November 9 by winning the Mazda Handicap, the main race at the Canterbury Park Trotting Club’s meeting at Addington Raceway this evening.
Tarlad, a C 8 horse, heralded an early win when he came from far back after an early lap to finish second to Vita Man in the Ashburton Flying Stakes on October 2. He was a shade disappointing at Forbury Park a week later when he finished eighth to Remote after being forced over much extra ground in the early part of the race. Back to Addington Raceway. where he has recorded
five of his eight wins. Tarlad should go close to returning to the outstanding form he showed last season. Betty Adios, The Sting and Vita Man form a trio requiring one success to earn a start in the big staying test on November 9. All three have sound form backgrounds and they are well capable of shining in this type of race. ’ Betty Adios has failed in
her two latest starts — at Ashburton and Forbury Park — when the tracks have been affected by rain. Before that she had raced with distinction. winning three times at Addington. The firmer footing expected this evening should enable her to use her talents to good advantage. The Sting had had a win and two seconds leading up to his sixth at Dunedin last
Saturday. He was forced wide for much of the way and this left him with nothing in reserve. He is better than that run might suggest and a big run is expected from him. Vita Man has a grand record at-Addington and he. too. must be respected, as must Mel's Boy and Twilight Mist, from the front, and Cyllarus. from 20m.
