Painting lent

PA Wellington The British Council in New Zealand has lent the National Art Gallery a painting by the British artist, Walter Richard Sickert, of Saint Mark's Cathedral in Venice. The Sickert will be on view at the gallery for six months as part of any exhibition of twentieth century British and European painting. Sickert (1860-1942) helped to introduce modern ideas into British painting in the early years of the century. The cathedral painting came from his first visit to Venice, in 1895.
