Harbour bridge statistics
PA Aucklano The Auckland harbour bridge now has the tenth highest volume of traffic in the world. The Sydney Harbour bridge, with 56.9 million vehicles a year, has the heaviest traffic, followed by the George Washington bridge in New York and the Golden Gate bridge in San Francisco. The Auckland Harbour bridge has 27.9 million vehicles crossing it each year. In the last 12 months, the bridge traffic increased 4.21 per cent, compared with the world average of 3.3. per cent. The general manager of the Auckland Harbour Bridge Authority, Mr Owen Brannigan, said that the projected maximum average of 116,000 vehicles daily could be reached in a few years. At present 86,000 vehicles cross the bridge each day.
