Shabby Tiger sets track record
From ROSS DIXON Greymouth The gallant Christchurch pacer. Shabby Tiger, ran a splendid race to win the first leg of the T.A.B. double at the Greymouth Trotting Club’s meeting at Greymouth last evening. A winner previously on the track. Shabby Tiger was pushed to a track record, pacing the 2200 m in 2min 55.25. In the hands of his regular driver. Jack Carmichael, he began well and worked to the lead after 600 m. Although hotly challenged in the straight, he fought gamely to hold a half head advantage over the outsider, Kotare Hunter, with a further head to the third placed Panair. The run of Panair was particularly good, as he was checked by the breaking Yankee Hall and lost some 25m at the start. The warm favourite, Yankee Hall, was the subject of stipendiary attention after his bad break at the beginning of the race and his starting manners will be watched in the future.
