Third Degree out of first leg at Geraldine

Firefly firmed in favour for the Geraldine Racing Club’s Tauranga Handicap today with the withdrawal yesterday of Third Degree. As winner of his last two races Third Degree claimed some attention for the first leg of today’s T.A.B. double at Orari, but he had some heat in a foot after his work on Sunday, and his trainer, Peter . Jones, scratched him yesterday afternoon. Jim Collett, who had been engaged for Third Degree, has his family’s hopeful. Nottingham Note, as his mount for the Smith Handicap. second leg of the T.A.B. double.

Nottingham Note ran Sea Princess close over the same distance (1400 m in the South Island Thoroughbred Stakes on this track last month, and could go one better today. Others on the longish list of fancies in the line-up against Nottingham Note are Indigod, Shardak, Turf Ruler, Anticipate, and Orfair, and they should provide the material for the best race on the programme.
