Johnny Carson fined on drink charge

Johnny Carson, pleaded no contest' to a drunken driving charge yesterday and was ordered to take a driver's education or alcohol treatment course. The plea was entered through his lawyer. Robert Shapiro, who told the judge: “The no-contest plea is entered against my advice but with my consent.” Municipal court judge David Kidney accepted Carson's statement that he wanted to enter the plea rather than go to trial.
