Rider changes plans
Special correspondent Wellington Jim Cassidy will not be riding in Australia this spring. Last season's leading rider, Cassidy had been booked to ride Nearco King in the Melbourne Cup, but since that galloper has suffered a setback, Cassidy has no trans-Tasman mounts and he will stay home. The change of plans means that Cassidy will be free to take the mount on Manchu in the $20,000 Wellington Handicap on Labour Day, October 25, and he will also be at Te Rapa next month to ride Kiwi in the Waikato Cup.
