Strong N.Z. market
The New Zealand sharemarket made strong gains yesterday over a broad front, with the high turnover of 2,783.583 shares reflecting the volume of Yates shares sold. Yates ordinaries made up 898.250, 12 per cent prefs
130.096, and Yates new shares 958.047. The mining and oil sector was very firm, with N.Z. Petroleum putting on 40c to 190 c. Atlas and Brierleys continued -their strong trend, and Fletcher boosted the N.Z.U. index con-
siderably by gaining 5c to 187 c. Winstone rose 6c. and Lichtenstein reacted to the half-vearly report with a jump of 6c to 340 c. Among the falls. Salmond stood, out with a 15c drop to--220c.
