Many at funeral of Mr Mathison
About 600 friends and associates of the late Mr Jock Mathison paid their last respects to him at his funeral held in Christchurch Cathedral yesterday. Mr ' Mathison died in Christchurch on Monday. He was 81.The service yesterday was taken by the Dean of Christchurch, the very Rev. Maurice Goodall, and the moderator of the Christchurch Presbytery, the Rev. J. Edgar. The eulogy was read by Lady Macfarlane who referred to Mr Mathison’s career of public service. She emphasised his dedication and service to his country and to Christchurch, both as a member of Parliament and as a Cabinet Minister.
The pallbearers at the service represented different aspects of Mr Mathison’s life and included the leader of the Opposition, Mr Rowling, the Deputy Mayor, Mr Rex Lester, the manager of the Canterbury Savings Bank, Mr Frank Dixon, and representatives of the Christchurch Transport Board and the New Zealand Ports Authority.
