Attempt on Lhotse abandoned
NZPA-Reuter Katmandu A four-member mountaineering team led by the New Zealander. Peter Hillary. has abandoned its attempt to climb Mount Lhotse. the world's fourthhighest peak, on Nepal's border with Tibet, according to the Nepalese Ministry of Tourism, yesterday. The team climbed to a maximum altitude of 8200 m (26.900 ft last Friday in a bid to reach the 8501 m (27.890 ft summit before being driven down by wind and snow, the Ministry said. Continued bad weather forced the team to give up the climb, it said.
Mr Hillary, aged 27. is the son of Mount Everest's conqueror. Sir Edmund Hillary. Other members of the team are from Australia and Britain.
