Mission head’s retirement
Sir,—“Mission head to retire” (“The Press," September 7): May I on behalf of the many recipients young and old, pay tribute to the work of the Rev. W. E. Falkingham and his staff who bring, on one lonely and isolated day of the year, joy and love in the “someone caring" role. This day is meaningless to many alone and friendless through circumstances over which they have no control. Life would be grim without the Mr Falkinghams of life, who in these times of reasonable affluence share the loaves and fishes. It is a hard reality that New Zealand is not to all a land of milk and honey, without poverty. I wish the staff of the Central Mission and Mr Falkingham well and a contented and rewarding retirement, after a life of rich fulfilment in services to others. — Yours, etc., (Mrs) M. E. MYERS. October 8, 1982.
