First stage of spacious development
The first stage of a major new shopping development opens today in Addington. Approached from Moorhouse Avenue, "Addingtown"
is on the left of Lincoln Road, a few doors past the Addington Post Office. The new building is modern in styling, but designed to fit in with the appearance of the older Addington shopping centre premises.
The steep blue roof, darkstained facings and the distinctive archways of the veranda add a faintly "old world" charm to an otherwise modern structure.
The L-shaped complex contains nine modern business premises, seven of them already let. So far installed and in business are The Tack Shop, the Addingtown Variety and Drapery Shop and the Carousel Bookshop.
The Colonial Tea and Coffee Shop, the Hair and Beauty Salon, and Dingwall and Paulger’s Keystore supermarket are due to open soon.
With Lincoln Road being a busy through-route, the offstreet parking area is a major advantage for the new complex. The Tack Shop has been open in Addingtown for a week now. and Mrs Bowis says that business has increased already, though she thought she was busy in her former Lincoln Road premises.
The centre is being developed by the H. E. Williams Trust. with Halliday. O'Loughlin and Taylor as the principal consultants. Asset Management. Ltd. has been appointed to handle the day-to-day management.
