Rush to finish plant
PA Wellington Overseas experts are working round the clock at Kapuni ammonia urea plant to have it ready for the official opening on December 11, by the Prime Minister, Mr Muldoon. Petrochem's general manager, Mr Joe Pope, said that 24 technicians from major overseas equipment suppliers and an extra 100 local contracting staff hoped to start performance tests by the middle of next month. "Pre-commissioning began back in May, and gas was turned on in August. Commissioning is on schedule and the plant plans to start pro-
ducing urea in December. "The first export shipment will leave early next year." he said. Mr Pope said local content in the $95 million project, to convert Maui natural gas to fertiliser, was expected to, reach about 34 per cent.
