Three centuries scored
Three centuries were scored in the lower grades on the opening day of the Canterbury Cricket Association's competitions on Saturday.
The top score was shared by R Grigg (East-Shirley, sixth grade) and G. Harris (Sydenham B. eighth grade). Both made 135 not out. Grigg hit 19 fours and six sixes, a total of 102 runs in boundaries.
P. Cotton (Old Collegians, third grade) compiled 105 not. out against St Thomas's College. John Delaney, of the Police President's grade side, took five wickets for just two runs against East-Mirley. Another outstanding bowling analysis was that of I. Boyle (Linwood High School) with six for nine against Shirley Boys' High School in third grade.
Second grade East Shirley 119 met St Albans 150,6.
Old Boys 234 (J. Whittaker 70 n o.; Simpson 6/98) met Sydenham A 157/5 (Gardiner 53, Marist 190 (G. Hills 86; McMillan 5/53. Murray 5/48) and 22/2 met Old Collegians 167.
