Pool fencing urged
Swimming pool owners have a responsibility to see that pools are fenced, according to the president of the Christchurch Parents' Centre, Mrs Cathy Hide. "Parents themselves have a responsibility to ensure that their children are safely harnessed while riding in a car,” she says. "The recently released
: Child Health Report highlights two things that we have been actively lobbying ' for over the last few years — accidents and drownings of children under five, and the need for parent education in • schools." he said. ! Classes educating young people for parenting were 1 now carried out in Christchurch by the Family Life 1 Education Council, which
was supported by the Parents Centre. “It is surprising the number of teen-agers who have had little or no contact with, small children. "If we are to improve the standard of child health, physically and mentally, courses on parent education should be available to make people aware of a child's total needs.”
