Brisbane protesters remanded by Court
NZPA Brisbane About 220 people were called to appear in the Brisbane Magistrate's Court yesterday charged with breaking Queensland's street march law and with offences under the Traffic Act. Ann Stephen, daughter of the Australian GovernorGeneral. Sir Ninian Stephen, was in the courthouse but did not appear when called, and forfeited bail of $l4O. She was charged with taking part in an illegal procession and disobeying a police directive. She also appeared on Tuesday with more than 100 other people in the Holland Park
Magistrate's Court charged under the Commonwealth Games Act in relation to an Aboriginal land rights demonstration near the Queen Elizabeth II stadium. She pleaded not guilty and was remanded to October 26. Two members of an A.B.C. television news crewappeared in court yesterday, also charged with disobeying the police at Thursday's land rights demonstration. They were remanded to a later date. Most defendants who appeared yesterday pleaded not ..guilty and were remanded to October 27.
