Festival for the Aged
A Festival for the Aged will open in Christchurch tomorrow, with services in parish churches and in the Anglican and Catholic cathedrals. The festival, which has been organised in recognition of the United Nations World Assembly on Ageing, will feature special activities throughout the week. Each day will be devoted to a different aspect of the festival. These include enlightenment. exercise, education. enjoyment, entertainment. eventide, and "everybody." The week will take in an indoor bowls tournament, visits to schools by the elderly, and concert performances.
Most of Christchurch's rest homes and hospitals for the aged will open their doors to the public on Fridav. October 15. ’ . As a climax to the week.
the Canterbury Vintage Car Club will take its "veteran" passengers (all of whom are aged over 90. and four aged over 100) to the Caledonian Hall for an entertainment and variety show on Saturday. October 16.
