Bill tightens law for architects
Parliamentary reporter
A bill tightening the law on who can call themselves architects has been introduced in Parliament. The bill will extend the provisions of the Architects Act, 1963, which limits only the use of the term registered architect. It will make it an offence for any person who is not registered as an architect under the act to call him or herself an architect or a registered architect. This will apply even if the person is a member of the Institute of Architects.
The bill, which was referred to a select committee for study, will also allow the Institute of Architects to elect non-corporate, non-sub-scriber, honorary and life members.
