Chch divorce rise
Parliamentary reporter The number of divorces granted in Christchurch courts in the last nine years has more than doubled, according to figures released by the Minister of Justice, Mr McLay. In a written answer to a question by Mr M. K. Moore (Lab., Papanui), Mr McLay said 505 divorces were
granted in Christchurch in 1973. Last year 996 divorces were granted in the High Court and 147 in the Family Court, a total of 1143. Between 1971 and 1976, the number of divorces in Australia increased from 12,947 to 24,257. In the same time, the number of divorces in England and Wales rose from 73,700 to 125,700.
