14 ships due in port
Fourteen ships are due at Lyttelton between today and next Saturday, to make next week one of the busiest weeks for some time. A heavy demand on port facilities and labour is predicted. This week-end should be quiet, only two ships being due, but hectic activity is expected on Thursday when four vessels are scheduled to arrive. Due today are the Union Company’s roll-on vessel Marama arid' the Nedlloyd Marseilles, a relatively new vessel which has been put on Unit Express's run to Asia. 1 Regular callers expected in port during the week are the coastal vessels Onehunga and Coastal Trader, and the Tasman vessel Union Hobart. Also due are the Nedlloyd Frazer, on a South African run. and the Silver Fern, which will load meat for Japan. Due on Thursday are the Elbe, which will load coal and con-, tainers for Asia, the Reefer Beaver, which will unload oranges from South America, the Forum New Zealand, which sails to the Pacific Islands.’ and the Lae. which is starting Diamond Line’s new service to Papua NewGuinea. Other vessels coming during the week are the container ship ACT 4. and the Polychronis, which is carrying soda ash from the United States.
