Hostilities over — Argentina
NZPA New York Argentina said in the United Nations at the weekend that hostilities over the Falkland Islands had ended, and that it would not take any action to alter the situation. The statement stopped short of meeting British demands. voiced most recently by the Foreign Secretary, Nfr Francis Pym. last.week, that Argentina formally decdare that the hostilities are over. “The hostilities in the area have ceased, de facto, as everyone knows, and it is not
the intention of my Government to take the initiative to change this situation," the Argentine Foreign Minister. Mr Juan Ramon Aguirre Lanark said. But his country maintained its claim to sovereignty over the islands, and the final outcome could only be the returri of the territory to “its lawful owner." Argentina was ready to enter talks on sovereignty over the islands at the behest of the United Nations General Assembly and with the help of the secretary-general, he said.
