Korean machine tools
Stephenson Machine Tools. Ltd. is the sole New Zealand agent for Whacheon Machinery Works Co. Ltd., of Korea, and has recently appointed Toolquip Supplies. Ltd. of Christchurch as its South Island distributor of these top-quality machine tools. Whacheon Machinery Works Co. is one of the largest manufacturers of machine tools in Korea and holds 42 per cent of the total export sales in machine tools from that country. On display at the Southern Machinery Show will be Stephenson's most popular machine. the Whacheon WL43SD x 1000 G high precision centre lathe.
The range of speeds of this lathe are designed so that ut will create the most suitable cutting speed for any workpiece diameter within its size range, over the bed. The main spindle is supported at three points by precision bearings. An automatic forced-lubrication system supplies lubricant to every sliding way and driving mechanism inside the headstock. A lubricating device is also installed in the apron to provide lubrication to the carriage slideways and bedways. The number of feed changes (40) and thread cutting (4-80 TPI and 0.25-7 mm
pitch) are widely selective by lever operations. The machine is equipped with an over load device for feeding and thread cutting. This is quite an important safety feature. The cross-feed screw is in a permanent oil bath to maintain accuracy and a smooth travel. Hardened and ground bedways are made of hightensile cast iron, produced under licence of U.K. mehanite. The hydraulic disk brake provides safe quick braking of the spindle without generation of heat jn the headstock.
