Overseas meat markets
" There was a slight improvement in off-take of New Zealand lamb in U.K. wholesale markets last week but prices eased, reports the New Zealand Meat Producers’ Board in its weekly market survey.
On Smithfield market New Zealand PL grade lamb was quoted at 56-57.7 pence per lb. and PM grade 55-57 pence per lb. Prices for imported manufacturing beef in the U.S. firmed again because of expectations of a coming shortage after import restraints. The final shipments from’ New Zealand within the restraint limit are now at U.S. ports.. s New Zealand cow beef was quoted at 106.5 cents per lb. c.i.f., a rise of 1.5 cents, and bull beef at 120 cents per lb, up three cents.
No sales of New Zealand mutton to Japan were reported last week.
