Nunn leads heptathlon

An outstanding 200 m run. in 24.125, lifted Australian Glynis Nunn, into first place at'the end of the first day's competition in the Commonwealth Games heptathlon yesterday. She led overnight with 3682 points, from the highly fancied English all-rounder. Judy Livermore, who narrowly won the first three events, the 100 m hurdles, shot, and high jump, only, to

cancel her efforts out with a 25.01 s run in the 200 m. Livermore starts the final three events today with 3645 points. In third place is another top-ranked competitor. Jill Ross, of Canada, with 3395. 83 points ahead of teammate. Julie White. Kathryn Warren, of England, is fifth with 3304, and the first of the two New Zealand entries. Terry Genge. sixth on 3269.

New Zealand's second heptathlete, Karen Forbes, is ninth in the 13-strong field, on 3083 points. Both have some of their best events yet to come, so have a chance of improving on their present positions. There is little doubt that the gold medal will go to either Mrs Nunn or Miss Livermore. There was never much between them' in their events.
