‘Slaves’ network
NZPA Los Angeles Federal Bureau of Investigation agents have cracked a network supplying Indonesians as virtual slaves to households in the posh Beverly Hills district, the bureau said yesterday.
After a 16-month investigation, seven suspects were picked up in Los Angeles, two others in the Indonesian capital of Jakarta, and a warrant was issued for one other person. All are accused of illegally bringing 50 Indonesians, aged 18 to 24, into the United States since 1978 and placing them as domestics to the rich Beverly crowd.
