Mellsop Cup decided
PA Auckland Brenda Rhodes, of Te Puke, won the Mellsop Cup strokeplay championship at the ■ national women’s golf tournament at Middlemoreon Saturday. She took the 72-hole event by five strokes from Debbie Randell (Nelson) and Liz Douglas (Invercargill). Over the final two rounds yesterday the field had to Contend with wind and driving rain. .. “I’ve played in worse conditions. I just became determined to go out and break 80 in the final round to keep my score below 300,” said Rhodes later. Rhodes achieved her aim by shooting a seven-over-par 79. Nelson's Debbie Randell, 10 strokes off the pace, battled the wind and Tain to deliver a stiff challenge. In her third round of 71 she scored four birdies and three bogeys.
